8 Maoists arrested in Chhattisgarh: Police

Sukma (Chhattisgarh):

Eight Maoists have been arrested from a forest near Morpalli village of Chintalnar police station area in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.

The arrest was made in the area by a joint squad of the CRPF and the CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), an elite unit of the Sukma police station.

Addressing a press conference, senior police officer Sunil Sharma said, “Security forces started this operation on November 2, acting on intelligence inputs about the movement of Naxalites in the area.

Among those arrested, Kavasi Raju alias Santu is a member of ‘Battalion’, and ‘Militia Company Commander’ Kalmu Mada carrying a bounty of Rs 8 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, respectively.

He further said that the other accused also had a bounty of Rs 1 lakh each on their heads.

An FIR has been registered against all the accused and 35 detonators, six gelatin rods, two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), batteries, wires and other materials have been recovered from them, the police official said.
