8 AU researchers are among the top 2% of Stanford University scientists. Allahabad News – Times of India

Prayagraj: In acknowledgment of the high level of research being carried out at Allahabad University, Stanford University (USA) has included eight scientists from the institute in its list of top 2% of scientists in the world. The world famous university had released the list a few days back.
Three of the eight scientists in the top 2 percent list ToDepartment of Biochemistry including Professor Bechan Sharma, Professor Abhay Pandey and Prof. SI Rizvi, two Professors SM Prasad and Professor DK Chauhan from the Department of Botany and one each from the Department of Materials Science (Prof. Ravindra Dhar), K Banerjee Center of Oceanography (Assistant Professor Sudhir Singh) and Department of Chemistry (Prof MC Chattopadhyay).
The report was prepared by Stanford University professor John PA Lonnidis and his team and published by Elsevier. AU’s Dean (Research and Development) Professor SI Rizvi said that a total of 3,352 Indian researchers have found a place in the list which represents India’s valuable influence on the global research platform.
Speaking to TOI, Prof Rizvi said that the inclusion of eight faculty members in the prestigious list is a big achievement for AU which is grappling with a large number of vacant faculty positions. The University is creating a conducive environment for research and the researchers are being provided with high class facilities to carry out their work in cutting edge research areas.
To accelerate research, the University has instituted two prestigious awards; The Dronacharya Award will be given to a faculty member of the rank of Assistant Professor) and the MN Saha Award for Best Research Scholar in Science and Humanities. Rizvi said the two awards would be announced in front of the education minister during the convocation.
It is noteworthy that despite the reduction in the number of faculty, the research work of the university is exemplary. Data from SCOPUS shows that the citation effect of published research papers from Allahabad University is 0.99. It should be noted that the world average value is 1. This data shows that the quality of research at Allahabad University is at par with world standards.
The number of research papers published (indexed in Scopus) from Allahabad University during the period 2016-20 is 1728, and the h-index of the university is 39 which is very good, informed the Dean, Research and Development. Professor Rizvi said that the recent achievement of the scientists of Allahabad University will surely be an inspiration to the young faculty members and research scholars.
