73% growth in demand for blue and gray collar jobs, highest in BPO, customer care: Survey

With the economy expanding from pre-Covid levels, the recruitment demand for blue and gray collar jobs has picked up recently. A survey by Quess Corp showed that job vacancies increased by 73 per cent in the fourth quarter as compared to the previous quarter of FY22.

The largest share of jobs for blue and gray collar talent comes from BPO, customer care, delivery, data entry, back office, field sales and retail and counter sales categories. These categories together make up more than 80 percent of all available vacancies.

While job vacancies in BPO, customer care and delivery services have seen a growth of 30 per cent, data entry and back office have seen a growth of 10 per cent, field sales by 6 per cent, retail and over the counter sales by 4 per cent.

In Q4, the retail and BFSI sectors have witnessed a sharp jump in business across the country. Similarly, most Tier-II and III cities have seen steady improvement in hiring across sectors. Delhi (15 per cent) and Bengaluru (14 per cent) have the largest share of jobs, with 29 per cent of the total job vacancies. There has also been an equal mix of freshers (43%) and experienced talent with 1-5 years of experience (45%). When it comes to gender representation, men make up the overwhelming majority of job seekers (81 percent), while female job seekers make up 19 percent of all job seekers on the platform. On the education front, 57 per cent of the job seekers are graduates and above.

“The improved market sentiments, reflected by the increase in consumer purchases, have been instrumental in reviving business activities, leading to increased demand for manpower in several sectors. Additionally, technological advancements have simplified entire frontline hiring to enable more solid talent search from across the country,” said Quess Corp.
