72 Hurain landed in the soup before her film release. Amid controversies, the film by Ashok Pandit and Sanjay Puran Singh hit the silver screens on 7 July. The film grabbed headlines and took social media by storm, however, failed to excite the audience on its opening day.

Early estimates said that 72 Hurain failed to even cross the Rs 5 lakh mark on the first day of its release. The film starring Aamir Bhaseer and Pavan Malhotra collected Rs 0.35 crore on the first day. Significantly, the film is being compared to two of the most controversial films, The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story, which created a stir at the box office. While The Kashmir Files became the highest grosser of 2022 and earned Rs 3.55 crore on Day 1, Sudipto Sen’s The Kerala Story earned Rs 8 crore on Day 1. If we compare these two films, then 72 Hurayan is getting a slow start, which may affect the total box office collection of the film.

Directed by Sanjay Puran Singh, 72 Hurain revolves around the Quranic concept of Hoor and throws light on the brainwashing of youth in the name of religion and forcing them into militancy. The film got divided on social media after its release. While a section of users criticized the makers for hurting the sentiments of Islam, others appreciated the performances of the stars.

A police complaint was also filed against the makers by a Mumbai-based social worker for hurting religious sentiments. The complainant presented a separate case to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) seeking a ban on the screening of the film.
