71 Demolition Drives Carried out in South Delhi This Year so far: MCD

New Delhi: Civic authorities have carried out 71 demolition drives against “unauthorized properties” in south Delhi this year so far, officials said on Wednesday. He said that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has also taken sealing action 41 times in the same period. In a statement, the south zone of the MCD said it has launched a demolition and sealing drive against “unauthorised constructions” in various areas of south Delhi.

“The massive demolition drive has been carried out by the department with an aim to discourage unauthorized construction activities by unscrupulous builders,” the MCD said in a statement.

The MCD said that on a few occasions there was stiff resistance from the local residents, who tried to create ruckus and obstruction to prevent the demolition crews from taking action, but the operation was carried out successfully.

The MCD said it would further speed up the demolition drive. “The objective of this drive is to build in properties within the parameters of the Master Plan-2021 and the Unified Building Bye-laws-2016, which include notified regulations applicable to construction activities in the capital,” the statement said.

“These demolition and sealing actions are a strong message against unscrupulous builders to comply with the provisions of the DMC Act, 1957, Master Plan-2021 and Unified Building Bye-laws-2016.

“Along with these actions, the department will continue to take such punitive actions with the sole objective of bringing the construction activities within the ambit of the aforesaid laws,” it added.
