7 years of ‘Baahubali’: How Prabhas decided to aim for body transformation, the DYK actor weighed 100 kg

When it released in 2015, director Rajamouli’s magnum opus ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ became a national phenomenon. Apart from the huge success at the box office, lead actor Prabhas’s sculpted physique brought a big change in people’s perception about physical fitness. Prabhas’ physique was a trendsetter in Baahubali and the film remains in the minds of the audience even after seven years of its release. From rigorous training to elaborate diet plan, the actor has managed to build a physique that no one ever imagined.

For nearly five years during the making of the super successful Baahubali franchise, Prabhas devoted his time to the role of a lifetime. On his part, the makers of Baahubali had arranged for special gym equipment to effect his role in the film, which was supervised by professional bodybuilder Laxman Reddy.

Reddy revealed that while Prabhas weighed around 100 kg to play the role of Amarendra Baahubali, his role as Shivudu as seen in Baahubali: The Beginning required a toned body.

“As Baahubali, Prabhas had to build a lot of muscle and for son’s character, Shivudu, he had to look lean. His physique fluctuated over four years, it was difficult. Prabhas’s weight Was around 100 kgs and his body fat percentage was in the range of 9-10. For the short character, he had to have a toned body with minimal muscle mass,” Reddy explained.

Reddy revealed that Prabhas’ training regime, shooting schedule and diet for Baahubali: The Beginning and its sequel were completely opposite. “He used to have six meals with egg whites, chicken, nuts, almonds, fish and vegetables. To prepare for Baahubali, he had eight meals a day, carb-heavy with paneer and mutton. In the evening, we had There were weight training sessions, which included deadlifts, squats, bench presses and other rigorous exercises.”

The hard work paid off with the release of Baahubali: The Beginning in 2015 when the film collected Rs 650 crore worldwide and also won the National Award for Best Feature Film.
