7 killed, many injured after blast in Bihar’s Bhagalpur

At least seven people were killed and seven others injured in a massive explosion at a house in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district. The police gave this information on Friday. The blast took place on Thursday night at around 11.30 pm in the house of Kajwali Chak village under Tatarpur police station area.

The blast was so strong that four houses collapsed and the sound was heard about 15 km from the site.

After the blast, Bhagalpur Range DIG Sujit Kumar, District Magistrate Subrata Kumar Sen, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Babu Ram and other senior officers reached the spot.

“The explosion could have happened during the illegal manufacture of indigenous crude bombs. There is also a possibility that the alleged persons may have been making firecrackers. As the nature of the blast was so intense, we believe that the quantity of explosives was very high,” Sujit Kumar said.

Of the seven victims, two have been identified as Ganesh Prasad Singh (60), Urmila Devi (65), while the remaining five are yet to be identified.

The injured persons have been identified as Soni Kumari (30), Navin Mandal (32), Rahul Kumar (20), Aayesha Kumari (25), Rinku Kumar Shah (30), Vaishnavi (30) and Jaya (35).

The injured have been admitted to Mayaganj Hospital in Bhagalpur. The condition of four of them remains critical.

Local police believe more people may be trapped under the debris. Rescue operation started soon after the incident.

“We are in the process of recording the statements of the injured to ascertain the nature of the explosives. We have also called the FSL team to collect the samples.”

The areas around Bhagalpur and Munger are hotbeds of illegal manufacture of firearms and bombs.
