66% of India’s adult population has been given at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine: Govt. India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Center on Thursday said that 66 per cent of the country’s adult population has been given at least one dose of COVID-19. Vaccination, while 23 percent received both doses.
Addressing a press conference, union health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan Said that 63.7 percent of the vaccine doses have been given in rural areas and 35.4 percent in urban areas.
He said that a total of 68.2 lakh doses (about 0.95 per cent) have been administered at COVID vaccination centers not tagged as rural or urban.
As per the data, the cumulative number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed 84 crore CO Win Door.
Bhushan said that from May 1 to September 22, about six per cent of the doses were given in private hospitals and the rest in public health facilities.
“Two-thirds of India’s adult population (66 percent) has been vaccinated against SARS-CoV 2 and nearly a quarter of the adult population has received two doses, and you can see that both these parameters have been shown by the states and the Centre. There are territories that have done this. Much better than these averages. This in itself is a very important milestone in the line of other milestones that you know about,” NITI Aayog Member (Health) VK Paul said.
He said that vaccines are providing massive protection against serious diseases and mortality and therefore, it is a matter of satisfaction that coverage is now unprecedentedly important.
“We are urging people who are eligible but not vaccinated – men and women, pregnant women and everyone else – especially those over the age of 50 – to get their first and second doses. So that they can get full protection and we can overcome this pandemic,” Paul underlined.
Bhushan said that 99 per cent of health workers have received the first dose, while 84 per cent of the eligible health workers have received the second dose.
He said that 100 per cent of the frontline workers have been given the first dose, while 80 per cent have been given the second dose.
According to the data shared, the average daily dose given in a month has increased from 19.69 lakh in May to 39.89 lakh in June, then 43.41 lakh in July and 59.19 lakh in August.
The average daily vaccination so far in September has been 81.60 lakh per day, the health secretary said, adding that around 18 crore doses have been administered in 22 days of September.
He said that out of the total vaccinations, 43.39 crore males (52.2 per cent) have received vaccines and 39.72 crore females have received jabs (47.8 per cent) and about 0.02 per cent of the ‘other’ gender have also received vaccines during this period.
