Delhi has also seen a slight increase in admissions to hospitals, with the recent rise in COVID-19 infections, but most of these patients, say doctors, have co-morbid conditions.

Despite the increase in the positivity rate, the city government has not implemented the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) prepared by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) as hospitalizations are low.

The GRAP came into force in August last year, stipulating the measures to be taken by the government for locking and unlocking of various activities according to the positivity rate and bed occupancy.

Experts have said that people letting their guard down and traveling during the holiday season are the main reasons behind the latest rise in the number of coronavirus cases in Delhi. The city had recorded a positivity rate of 30.6 per cent on January 14, the highest during the third wave of the pandemic.
