5 yoga asanas to lose weight this winter – here’s how to do them

Yogasanas for weight loss: Winter is the time when we love sipping on that ghee-laden carrot pudding, hot chocolate dessert, or a hot cup of cocoa, often made with condensed milk and sugar. The prickle in the air is accompanied by a healthy appetite. Christmas and end-of-the-year parties and get-togethers also mean a lot of food and drink. So naturally, this is the one time of the year when we tend to put on extra weight. Yoga asanas are part of overall fitness and a few asanas done regularly will boost your metabolism and help you control your weight. Let’s know about the rugs.

 

1) Utkatasana (Chair Pose)

Utkatasana or chair pose produces a lean stomach, a toned butt and legs

How to do:

Stand straight with your feet slightly apart from each other. Keep your hands straight and extend them towards the front. Your palms should be facing down and your elbows should not be bent. Then as if you are sitting on a chair (imaginary), bend your knees and push your pelvis down. Then raise your arm above your head and hold the position. Exhale and stand up. Repeat.

2) Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana)

Cobra pose or Bhujangasana can boost your metabolism and burn fat.

How to do:

Lie down on your stomach and keep your legs straight. Lean forward to keep your forearm perpendicular to the floor and place your hand on the floor on either side, next to the last ribcage. Then push through your arms to lift your body. Look straight and stay in this position for 15-20 seconds, breathing normally.

3) Dhanurasana (Bow Pose)

This asana can help you reduce the extra fat in your arms and legs.

How to do:

Lie on your stomach. Your feet should be slightly apart and your hands by your side. Bend the knees and hold the ankles. Breathe in and slowly raise your chest above the ground. Feel the stretch in your arms and thighs. Stay in the position for about 15 seconds. Then exhale and slowly bring your chest and legs down to the ground, keeping your ankles relaxed. Relax with your arms at your sides. Repeat the set 3-4 times.

4) Setu Bandha Sarvangasana (Bridge Pose)

This asana strengthens the core muscles and helps in reducing belly fat.

How to do:

Lie on your back. Keep your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Keep your arms at your sides with palms facing down. Then press the feet into the floor, inhale and use your arms to push your pelvis off the floor, exhale. Raise your body so that only your neck and head are flat on the floor. Maintain this position and take a few deep breaths.

5) Navasana (Boat Pose)

This is one of the best yoga poses to lose weight, especially belly fat.

How to do:

Sit straight on the mat and stretch your legs forward. Bend your knees, and leaning back slightly, lift both your legs up to knee height. Your feet should be parallel to the floor. Now raise your hands forward. Stay in this pose for at least 30 seconds and come back to your original position. Exhale as soon as you leave the pose. For best results rest and repeat 10 -15 times.
