BJP MLA Hardik Patel from Viramgam in Gujarat has got relief in a five year old case. In the year 2017, the Jamnagar court acquitted him in the controversial speech case in Dhutarpur-Dhulsia village of Jamnagar. In this case, Ankit Ghedia, convenor of the Patidar Reservation Movement Committee (PAAS), has also been accused along with him. Ghedia has also been acquitted.

What was the whole matter?
During the ongoing Patidar reservation movement in Gujarat, on 4 November 2017, a meeting was held at Dutsia in Jamnagar under the leadership of Hardik Patel. The approval of this assembly was taken under educational purposes. But a complaint was lodged due to the political speech given in the meeting. A case was registered against the pass coordinators Ankit Ghedia and Hardik Patel. The last hearing of the case took place in Jamnagar court today and both were acquitted. In this matter, the court has accepted the arguments of Hardik Patel’s lawyer Dineshbhai Virani and Rashidbhai Khira.

Who is Hardik Patel
Hardik Patel, who became the face of the Patidar movement, is a resident of Viramgam in Gujarat. Studied B.Com. Before leadership, he used to help his father in his work. His father had the job of supplying water by filling it in bottles from a boring pump. He had joined Congress after the Patidar movement. Later, he became MLA from Viramgam in BJP in last year’s assembly elections.

After the movement, there was violence in many places. After this, curfew had to be imposed in many cities of the state. After several incidents of violence and arson in the state, the situation became normal on 28 August 2015, but on 19 September 2015, the movement once again took a violent form. After this, the government announced subsidies and scholarships for general category students and 10 percent reservation for economically weaker students. In August 2016, the Gujarat High Court had put a stay on this reservation.
