48% parents don’t want to send children to school till vaccination: Survey

A new survey says that nearly 48 per cent of parents are not ready to send their children to schools until they are vaccinated against the novel coronavirus infection.

Nearly 48 percent of parents are not ready to send their children to school until they get the novel vaccine coronavirus Infections, says a new survey. The survey, conducted with over 32,000 parents in 361 districts of the country, found that 30 per cent parents are willing to send their children to schools if the coronavirus cases in their districts drop to zero.

“Vaccination of children will be crucial in the coming months if children are to attend schools for physical classes. Forty-eight percent of parents surveyed said they are not ready to send their children to school until they are vaccinated.” At least 21 percent of parents said they are ready to send their children there whenever schools reopen Survey by LocalCircles, an online platform.

About 47 percent of the survey respondents were from Tier 1 districts, 27 percent from Tier 2 and 26 percent from Tier 3, 4 and rural districts. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had told BJP MPs on Tuesday that the vaccination of Kovid for children is likely to start soon.

Schools across the country were ordered to close in March last year ahead of the nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of the highly contagious infection. While many states began partially reopening schools in October last year, physical classes were suspended again after a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases during the second wave.

The states that have partially reopened schools this month include Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh have announced the reopening of schools in the first week of August.
