4 overs, 2 wickets, 0 runs: Vidarbha spinner bowls 4 maiden overs in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Vidarbha spinner Akshay Karnawar created history by bowling all maidens in his four-over spell in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy game against Manipur in Mangalagiri on Monday. He not only conceded zero runs in his spell but also managed to take two wickets, becoming the first bowler to achieve the feat in men’s T20 cricket.

Electing to bat first, Vidarbha scored a total of 222 runs in their quota of 20 overs. Batsman Jitesh Sharma’s unbeaten 71 off 31 balls and Apoorva Wankhede’s unbeaten 49 helped the team got the target of 223 runs.

After the batsmen’s attack, the bowlers wreaked havoc and bundled out Manipur for 55 runs in just 16.3 overs. The duo of Akshay Karnawar and Atharva Tayde laid a net around the rival batsmen as they took two wickets each without conceding a single run.

Karnevar did not take any run in his four overs. He dismissed S Lifangbam and Johnson Singh. Teide, on the other hand, bowled just one over which turned out to be a double wicket maiden.

Barring Karnjit Yumnam (18) and captain Narsingh Yadav (10), none of the batsmen could score in double digits. As a result, Vidarbha won the game by 167 runs.

With three more matches left, Vidarbha are at the top of the plate group with 16 points. It has four points more than Nagaland, Tripura and Meghalaya. Andhra set the T20 record for the biggest margin of victory, a 179-run win over Nagaland in the 2019 edition of the meeting.
