4 killed, 14 injured in fire in junk shop in Jammu, fear of short-circuit fire

Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha has sanctioned an ex-gratia of Rs.5 lakh each for the families of those killed.

Four people were killed and 14 others were injured after a massive fire broke out at a scrap shop and adjoining jhuggis in Jammu city on Monday.

Locals said the fire broke out in the scrap shop early in the evening and engulfed the nearby slums in the Residency Road area.

Jammu SSP Chandan Kohli also said that the fire broke out in a scrap shop located in the Residency Road area this evening and some gas cylinders also exploded, causing fire to the nearby shanties.

“As per preliminary reports, an electrical short circuit is believed to be the cause of the fire,” he said.

Police, fire and emergency services and local people worked hard to rescue the injured.

Police said that 4 people died and 14 were injured in this fire. The injured were being treated in the hospital.

The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha has sanctioned an ex-gratia of Rs.5 lakh each for the families of the slain persons.

An amount of Rs 1 lakh each has been sanctioned to the families of the seriously injured, while Rs 25,000 will be given to those with minor injuries.
