opener Janman Malan South Africa scored the fourth-highest score in One Day International history as his unbeaten 177 helped the tourists to a series-levelling 70-run win over Ireland in Malahide, Dublin on Friday.
Malan shared an equally impressive 225-run partnership for the first wicket. quinton de kock (120 off 91 balls) as South Africa posted 346 for four in their 50 overs, before bowling out Ireland for 276 in 47.1 overs in their reply.
Malan hit 16 fours and six sides in his 169-ball knock at the crease, 11 runs short of Gary Kirsten’s unbeaten 188 against South Africa in the 1996 Cricket World Cup against the United Arab Emirates.
Ireland were in trouble early in their innings as a left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj (2-51) picked up quick wickets and bundled out the home team for 27 for three.
Simi Singh (100 not out) scored his maiden ODI century, and the top score for an Irishman batting at number eight, went with a half-century for South African-born Curtis Camper (54).
Tabrez Shamsi (3-46) was the victim of the attack by the tourists, but he made another sloppy performance in the field, missing several catches.
Ireland won the second ODI by 43 runs on Tuesday after the first match was washed out by rain.
The teams will now face a three-match Twenty20 International series starting Monday.
