38,164 new COVID cases, 499 deaths reported in India in last 24 hours

India saw an increase of 38,164 new coronavirus infections in a single day, while the death toll rose to 4,14,108 with 499 daily fatalities, according to data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Monday, nearly 104 days is the lowest. The total number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 3,11,44,229. Active cases have come down to 4,21,665 and comprise 1.35 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 97.32 per cent, data updated at 8 am.

The active COVID-19 caseload has registered a decrease of 995 cases in a 24-hour period.

Further, 14,63,593 tests were conducted on Sunday, taking the total cumulative tests conducted so far for COVID-19 detection in the country to 44,54,22,256, while the daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.61 per cent.

According to the health ministry, it has remained below three per cent for 28 consecutive days, the ministry said, adding that the weekly positivity rate has come down to 2.08 per cent.

The number of people recovering from the disease rose to 3,03,08,456 and the case fatality rate stands at 1.33 per cent, the data said.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed 20 lakh on 7 August, 30 lakh on 23 August, 40 lakh on 5 September and 50 lakh on 16 September last year.

It had crossed 60 lakh on 28 September, 70 lakh on 11 October, 80 lakh on 29 October, 90 lakh on 20 November and one crore on 19 December last year.
