New Delhi: More than a third Air India9,000 employees infected so far COVID-19 And 56 of them have lost their lives.
“A total of 3,523 employees of Air India have been affected by Kovid-19. (Among them), 56 employees have succumbed to this pandemic till July 14, 2021,” Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation VK Singh said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
Air India had just 9,000 employees last March.
The airline has been at the forefront of operating flights to bring back Indians stranded abroad during the pandemic, a process that began last January when it operated two jumbo flights from Delhi to Wuhan to bring back Indians, mainly students. Jets were flown. Gen (Retd) Singh said that AI has taken several measures to protect the interests of the COVID affected employees and their families.
He said that Air India has given a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family of each permanent employee who died due to Kovid-19. He said that when a fixed-term contractual worker died due to Covid-19, the AI paid a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to his family.
He said that the employees infected with Kovid-19 were given 17 days paid quarantine leave. “Reimbursement of vaccination fee is being provided to the employees and their families on their payment,” he said.
