£350/month ‘thank you’ payment: UK scheme for residents sheltering Ukrainian refugees

new Delhi: The United Kingdom government has announced that British residents housing refugees from Ukraine will receive a “thank you” payment of £350 (about Rs 35,000) per month under a new humanitarian scheme to be launched this week, UK media reported. Told.

According to a report by Mirror.co.uk, the Homes for Ukraine scheme will allow individuals, charities, businesses and community groups to bring back Ukrainians fleeing the war with Russia.

Sponsors can nominate an individual or family from Ukraine to live with them in their home, or in a separate property, without paying any rent, the report said. Those sponsoring the refugees will have to commit to the scheme for at least six months, but may continue with the offer for as long as they can.

According to the report, applicants from Ukraine will be subjected to security screening and those offering accommodation will be screened.

Sponsors will receive a payment of £350 per month as a “thank you”. A website to be launched on Monday will have all the details about the sponsors who are giving expression of interest.

Citing the government, the Mirror report also said it is working to enable the voluntary sector, communities and charitable and religious organizations to sponsor Ukrainian refugees.
