According to the report, there has been an increase of 34% in the cases of child abuse worldwide during 2021 as compared to 2020. However, the good thing is that people themselves are registering complaints by identifying and reporting child abuse material so that such photos can be banned.

Facebook has the highest number of child sexual abuse cases
According to a report by a US NGO, in 2021, 30 million photographs related to child abuse went viral on the Internet. They were removed from social media by NCMEC after filing the report. The highest number of 20 million child abuses were reported on Facebook. For the first time, Facebook had revealed 3.3 million images of child abuse on its other platforms such as Instagram and 1.3 million on WhatsApp through Meta.

Similarly, Google registered 8,75,783 reports and Snap Chat got 5,12,522 reports. Adult site OnlyFans was added to the list for the first time after its owner, Fenix International, removed 2,984 photos in 2021 following complaints. Apple only reported 160 child abuse imagery in this period. Both WhatsApp and Apple provide end-to-end encrypted messaging services. Important steps can be taken to end child sexual abuse.
