A specimen of 3 centuries old British and Indian architecture will no longer be seen in Karnal district of Haryana. It is being erased forever, because the old revenue record building located in the old court complex is being demolished and made into debris.

This land has been transferred to Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College. Hence the demolition of the building which had been turned into ruins was bound to happen. Historians say that the building cannot be saved, but its photographs can be saved, so that future generations can become familiar with the architecture.

Revenue and judicial records saved for 3 centuries

The Revenue Record Office was operated in this building built under British rule since 1834. The revenue record of the district was saved in this building for about 286 years. The Judicial Court records were also kept in this building. After the court complex was built in Sector 12, that record was taken from here. The Revenue Records Office was also shifted in 2018-19 after the building collapsed. The old record was in English and Urdu language. Records like Jamabandi of land, Girdawari, Khasra number and ownership etc. were saved in this building for 3 centuries.

Strengthened in terms of security

The building’s wide walls, high ceilings, high round strong doors, large windows showed that the building was once built with strength to protect important records. The width of the walls is such that such a wide bathroom is made in today’s homes. Now this building was dilapidated.

This building was a specimen of rich architecture. British and Indian architecture was a mixture of techniques. He continued to attract the present with his unique appearance. It was neither hot nor cold. Building art should be preserved through photographs. In future, if needed, the technology can be taken advantage of.
