30 million contracts, India gave only 10 million doses of corona vaccine, Bangladesh claims

The coronavirus vaccine is scarce. That’s why Bangladesh’s Health Minister Zahid Malek blamed India. He claimed that an agreement of three crore doses has been signed with India. Altogether only one crore doses have been sent.

He told in a press conference at Garpara in Manikganj on Saturday that New Delhi has gifted 3 million doses of corona vaccine to Bangladesh. Also, out of the agreement of 30 lakh doses, only 60 lakh doses have been given. Bangladesh’s health minister has said that there are at least two crore doses left.

Thus, Bangladesh had signed an agreement with Serum Institute of India (SII) for Covishield. Initially vaccines were also sent to Dhaka. But the second wave of corona in India took that process forward. However, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswamy said that New Delhi wants to send the corona vaccine to Dhaka as soon as possible. In a meeting with Awami Youth League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, he said, “We are hopeful that this issue will be resolved soon. The situation of Corona in India is still in a dangerous state. So we cannot say for sure. That when the vaccine will be sent to Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Dhaka has signed an agreement with China on Indian vaccines as well as vaccines. Beijing has already sent some doses. The Health Minister of Bangladesh said that an agreement has been reached with China to buy 20 million doses. Advance booking of a total of 6.7 crore doses has been done for the purchase. He expressed the hope that Dhaka would get 110 million doses of vaccines this year if all countries are vaccinated as per the agreement.
