Patna: State Excise Commissioner B Karthikeya Dhanji On Monday, he said that intensive raids are being conducted against illegal liquor smugglers in the river banks of Bihar and sensitive places are being mapped by helicopter from Buxar to Bhagalpur.
Addressing media persons here, the commissioner said that hand-held devices and vehicle-mounted scanners would be hired in each district to detect liquor from vehicles to check illegal supplies.
“The bidding process has been initiated for the purchase of equipment to check the illegal trade in liquor. We have also started the process of procuring speed boats to nab the liquor smugglers in the Diara areas. Soon two high-speed boats will be available. Besides this, sniffer dogs will be hired to find liquor at every district and check post,” he said.
Dhanji said that seven satellite phones would be made available in remote areas of Patna, Bhojpur. sarni, Vaishali, West Champaran during patrol. “If necessary, its number will be increased after the review,” he said.
The commissioner said that in view of Holi, a special campaign has been launched under which raids are being conducted through drones across the state even at night.
“A total of 19,122 raids have been conducted against illegal liquor trade between March 6 and March 12, including 6,084 by the Excise Department and 13,039 by the Home Department. At least 2,800 cases have been registered during the same period. Similarly, 3,357 accused have been arrested under the Prohibition Act,” Dhanaji said.
He said, “Last week at least 48,944 liters of country liquor and 54,146 liters of IMFL have been recovered and destroyed. During this, a total of 313 people have been arrested and 547 vehicles have been seized for home delivery of liquor.
