The first consignment of upgraded Rafale fighter jets arrived on Tuesday. According to the need, 13 types of changes have been made in it. Which also includes the convenience of firing air-to-air missiles on the top notch with hardware tweaks.

With the arrival of three Rafale jets under the Rs 59 thousand crore deal with France in September 2016, their total number has now increased to 35. The last and 36th Rafale will come to India in April. ISE testing of this last aircraft has been done in France.

Rafale will now be upgraded in India only

According to the Times of India report, a French team is present in India to upgrade the hardware and software of the first delivered aircraft. This team will upgrade two to three aircraft every month according to the requirement.

These changes include radar enhancements, Israeli helmet-mounted displays and low-band jammers to the Todd decoy system and 10 hours of flight data recording. These changes will strengthen the high altitude areas like Ladakh. Cold start engine capability has also been increased for high altitude regions like Ladakh.

Arms capacity of 9000 kg
With an arms capacity of 9000 kg, Rafale is already fitted with air-to-surface cruise missiles with a range of more than 300 km. At the same time, after being equipped with Meteor missiles with a strike range of 120 to 150 km, it will become even more lethal. The twin-engine Rafale can cover a combat range of 780 to 1,650 km without mid-air refueling.

Rafale is capable of carrying out nuclear attack

  • Rafale DH (two-seater) and Rafale EH (single seater), both are fourth generation fighters with twin engine, delta-wing, semi-stealth capabilities.
