3 Dead in Blast at TMC Leader’s House in East Medinipur; BJP Says Bomb Making ‘Flourishing’ in WB

Three persons were feared dead and two others injured in an alleged crude bomb blast at a house in East Medinipur district of West Bengal in the early hours of Saturday. The blast reportedly took place near the ancestral residence of Shubhendu Adhikari, Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly.

The incident took place in Contai area of the district, hours before Abhishek Banerjee’s public meeting in Bhagwanpur area of Purba Medinipur, which is the home constituency of the officer.

Alleging TMC’s involvement in the case, the official claimed that the high-intensity blast occurred at TMC leader Rajkumar Manna’s house while he was “making bombs” there. Manna is among the three people who died due to the blast.

,3 people were killed and 2 others were seriously injured in a blast at TMC leader’s house in Bhupatinagar of Bhagwanpur II block of Purba Medinipur district. TMC booth president Rajkumar Manna was making bombs at his house when this high-intensity explosion took place,” the official tweeted and demanded an NIA probe into the matter.

East Midnapore is considered the home region of the officer. Taking a dig at the TMC-led government in the state, the BJP leader further claimed that the bombs are the product of the state’s “most successful cottage industry and are widely produced in homes of TMC leaders across Bengal.”

The other two people killed in the blast were identified as Debkumar Manna, Rajkumar and Biswajit Gayen’s cousin.

According to local police sources, two others who were seriously injured in the blast were taken to a local hospital in nearby West Midnapore district.

Questions were being raised on the lapse in security arrangements, especially when the entire area was cordoned off by the police since Friday regarding Abhishek Banerjee’s rally. To prevent any untoward incident during the rally, a huge police contingent has cordoned off not only the area where the Trinamool Congress national secretary’s rally is scheduled to take place, but also the ancestral residence of the leader of the opposition .

The police officials are completely tight-lipped about the possible cause of the blast. However, a political ruckus has started regarding this tragic incident.

BJP attacks TMC over blast

According to Ravindranath Maiti, the local BJP MLA from Bhagwanpur assembly constituency, the blast was caused by explosives kept at Manna’s residence, which were meant to make crude bombs.

Maity alleged, “An attempt is being made by the local administration to hush up the entire incident.”

Attacking the TMC government in the state over the bomb blasts, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya claimed, “Bomb-making is the only flourishing cottage industry in Bengal.”

“All TMC leaders from top to bottom are involved in this, take advantage of it. All this happens fearlessly under the supervision of Home Minister Mamta Banerjee. The question is, what are these bombs used for? Who is the target? Malviya tweeted.

Claiming that the TMC leader himself was making bombs at his house, BJP MP Dr. Sukanta Majumdar alleged that “many” leaders of Mamata Banerjee’s party “are a threat to the security of Bengal and the nation.”

TMC denied the allegation

However, Trinamool Congress state general secretary and party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh denied the allegations and claimed that local BJP workers were responsible for the blast, which they did to create tension in the area ahead of Abhishek Banerjee’s rally.

“The BJP has been trying to create tension in the area for the last few days. Their leaders, being escorted by personnel of the Central Armed Forces, were trying to bring explosives to the area,” alleged Ghosh.

Claiming that the BJP and the authorities were involved in “some serious ploys of violence and arson”, Ghosh further said that the bomb hurling was intended during Banerjee’s program in Contai.

Suvendu has agreed that the bombs were intended to be thrown in Contai. Now that he has spoken the truth. Were these made to pounce on our National General Secretary? BJP and Shubhendu are involved in some serious act of violence and arson.”
