According to the news release, Almenderez told his wife to be somewhere safe and headed for Nissan, which had three people at the time. As Almenderez approached, people inside the car opened fire, causing him to collide several times, the news release said.
The deputy was able to track back at least two suspects before they quickly fled, the release said.
Officials said Alméndrez was taken to Houston Northwest Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A short time later, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office, the two suspects arrived at the same hospital in Nissan Altima with gunshot wounds.
Joshua Stewart, 23, and Frederick Clark, 19, were arrested after arriving at the hospital early Friday. Court records show Fredrik Tardi, 17, was arrested later on Friday.
According to court documents, all three have been charged with murder.
Stewart was denied bond at a hearing on Friday, records show, and he has a bail review hearing on Monday. According to court records, both Clarke and Tardy are due to appear in preliminary court on Monday morning.
