2nd ODI: King to the Rescue, West Indies beat Netherlands to lead 2-0

A brilliant unbroken sixth-wicket partnership of 118 runs between Brandon King and Keesey Carty helped West Indies to a potential embarrassment at Amstelveen on Thursday in a five-wicket win over the Netherlands in the second One Day International.

Chasing a relatively straight target of 215, the duo created serious trouble with West Indies at 99 for five.

King hit three sixes and nine fours in his unbeaten 90-ball 91, while Carty played the anchor, scoring 43 off 67 balls.

Needing four to win and 28 balls to spare, he hit a short delivery from Duff High over midwicket and recorded his only six to seal the win, leaving West Indies 2–0 unbeaten in the three-match series. Got the victory.

The Dutch, who elected to bat after winning the toss, started the match in fine fashion, with Vikramjit Singh (46) and Max O’Dowd (51) putting on 101 runs for the first wicket.

Once they both fell – O’Dowd was the first of four victims for left-arm spinner Akil Hossein (4-39) – the rest of the batting struggled.

Scott Edwards, who came on three, worked hard and was dismissed for 68, but even he found it difficult to bowl a single boundary in his 89-ball knock.

The Dutch bowlers were well-compromised for their job of defending such a small total and were buoyed by the early dismissal of 18 from Shai Hope, who scored a century in Tuesday’s seven-wicket win.

With Logan van Beek picking up two wickets and 99 for five, it looked like Peter Seelar’s team could steal the match and end the series but King decided otherwise.

The series finale will take place on Saturday in Amstelveen.
