Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday took stock of the preparedness by various government agencies to deal with any emergency. IMD Forecast Heavy rain for the next few days and Orange alert has been issued for Mumbai and Konkan coast.

In a statement, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said Thackeray directed agencies to be more vigilant and asked officials to keep a watch on landslide prone areas and dilapidated buildings.

The Chief Minister on Saturday reviewed the situation arising out of heavy rains in Mumbai and adjoining areas.

The CM said that power companies should be careful as there are high tension towers around many residential areas.

“The underground areas should also be cleaned as the water treatment center located in suburban Mumbai’s Bhandup was inundated due to rain,” the release quoted the CM as saying.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to ensure that health workers in COVID-19 centers and field hospitals are kept on standby and steps should be taken to ensure that there is no spread of water-borne diseases.

Twenty-five people died in rain-related incidents as Mumbai lashed Mumbai with incessant rain overnight during a thunderstorm, causing severe water-logging and traffic disruption in the financial capital on Sunday, officials said.

Mumbai Municipal Corporation chief Iqbal Singh Chahal, who attended the meeting, said that the employees and officers of the Municipal Corporation are on duty round the clock.

Meanwhile, India Meteorological Department’s Jayant Sarkar told the meeting that an “orange alert” was issued for Mumbai and Konkan coast for the next five days.

According to the forecast, winds can blow at a speed of 50 to 60 kmph. The Meteorological Department said that there is a possibility of heavy rain on July 23 as well.
