22 tainted Bengaluru cops facing music this year, up from six in 2020 Bengaluru News – Times of India

BENGALURU: 22 police officers and personnel in the city have been suspended till August 17 this year, leading to a sharp rise in the uniforms of men and women in prosecution for corruption and other illegal activities.
Last year, six police officers faced music for similar charges. Seven officers are among the tainted personnel this year.

Serving police officers say the numbers are not alarming as they reflect the seriousness of the officers to clean up the department.
“Serious efforts are being made to give a new, citizen-friendly face to the department. Cases of suspension and departmental inquiries escalate only when higher authorities are determined to act on the erring officers and personnel and patiently listen to those who come forward with complaints against the police,” said a senior official.
However, he acknowledged that there is lobbying in the department to work in what is seen as plum posting and that corruption cases in the force are a manifestation of this deep malaise.
However, veterans do not share this optimism. “The accused police have blown the discipline and principles of the police department to the wind. These are the people who are affected by the corruption of others. But they demoralize the force,” Raghavendra AuradkarFormer DGP said.
Some officials attributed the incidents of corruption in their department to the lockdown, work pressure, quick transfers and political interference.
