21 trains delayed due to overhead cable failure in Bengaluru; One passenger died while crossing the track near Kolar. Bengaluru News – Times of India

BENGALURU/KOLAR: There was chaos on Wednesday morning at Tekal railway station near Kolar as the train was delayed and a passenger died after being hit by a speeding train of 12028 Shatabdi Express (Bengaluru-Chennai). Another person has suffered minor injuries.

according to this South Western Railway (SWR), 21 services were affected due to failure of Overhead Equipment (OHE) between 5.15 AM to 9/10 AM.
It is being told that this accident happened when the passengers of a train that stopped on the track a little ahead of the Tekal station were crossing the track due to a technical fault. An express train coming from the opposite direction hit a male passenger, killing him instantly. SWR officials confirmed that a passenger was crushed at around 8:38 am. The deceased has not been identified yet.
“Two passenger trains (06264 Marikuppam-KSR Bengaluru MEMU and 06382 Kolar-Bangalore Cantonment DEMU) were waiting at the station due to power failure. When Shatabdi Express was passing through the mainline, several passengers of these two trains were standing on the tracks. There is a Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at Tekal station so walking on the tracks could have been avoided. Actually, the loco pilot of Shatabdi tried to warn the man but he did not derail and fled. Another South Western Railway An official of the airline said, the passenger suffered some minor injuries.
A total of 21 trains were delayed due to this fault. Officials said 11006 Chalukya Express (Puducherry-Dadar) was halted at Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal from 5.10 am to 6.45 am and restarted with diesel engine. 12863 Howrah Yesvantpur Superfast Express was also stopped at Byappanahalli from 6.10 AM to 8.00 AM and resumed with Diesel Loco. 16525 Bengaluru Express (Kanyakumari – KSR Bengaluru City) was halted at Krishnarajapuram at 6:44 am and departed at 8.24 am.

The Railways is investigating the cause of the malfunction.
