2023 Mercedes-AMG One breaks cover with F1 engine, churns out a whopping 1049 hp

Five years ago Mercedes-Benz confirmed that the company was interested in building a hypercar powered by a Formula 1 race engine. It is now that we finally get to see one in the form of the 2023 Mercedes-AMG One. The street-legal hypercar is designed to be fitted to a Formula 1 engine. Thus, it claims a peak power output of 1,049 horsepower. Moreover, the top speed is claimed at 353 kmph while 0-100 kmph can be achieved in just 2.9 seconds. Mercedes-AMG One takes just 7 seconds to reach the 200 kmph mark from a standstill

Coming to the claimed F1 power plant, it is a hybrid setup consisting of a single engine and 4 electric motors. The engine is a 1.6-litre unit redlining 11,000 clicks with a peak power output of 566 hp. Dropping an anchor on the AMG One will also be an easy task; Braking duties are done by 15.6-inch rotors at the front and 15-inch rotors at the rear.

In terms of design, the AMG One is capable of wooing everyone. It sits close to the ground, and the stance of a hypercar is very typical. A negative lift when the speed exceeds 31 mph, and there are active front and rear aero components. The steering wheel descends directly from the F1 car. AC vents are made of expensive carbon fiber, while power window switches are mounted on butterfly doors.

The Mercedes-AMG One uses five arms, along with two adjustable struts for suspension duties. Interestingly, these struts are mounted transversely. They reduce the need for body roll and traditional stabilizer bars. The hypercar’s AWD system also enables torque vectoring to ensure that power is properly routed to the tarmac.

“With the Mercedes-AMG One, we have crossed limits. The immense technical challenges of creating a modern Formula 1 powertrain suitable for everyday use on the road have undoubtedly pushed us to our limits. During the period, that the project was impossible to implement. However, the teams in Affalterbach and Great Britain never gave up and believed in themselves. I have the greatest respect for all the participants and am proud of this teamwork ,” said Philip Schirmer, chairman of the management board of Mercedes-AMG.
