2022 Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder recalled over faulty seat belt, 994 units affected

Toyota Kirloskar Motor on Tuesday said it is recalling around 994 units of its recently launched mid-size sports utility vehicle Urban Cruiser Haider to rectify a faulty seat belt part. The company said in a statement that it has initiated a voluntary recall campaign for certain Urban Cruiser hider units to investigate a possible issue with the front seat belt shoulder height adjuster plate assembly.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) said in a statement that around 994 vehicles of specified models may be affected by the concern. The front seat belt shoulder height adjuster plate assembly will be replaced from the suspect vehicles.

The automaker said that the recall is being initiated in line with the company’s commitment to the safety and satisfaction of the customers. It added that so far there has been no report of damage to the affected area.

TKM launched the Urban Cruiser header in July this year. The model is priced between Rs 10.48 lakh to Rs 18.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Earlier in the day, Maruti Suzuki India said it is recalling 9,125 units of its models Ciaz, Brezza, Ertiga, XL6 and Grand Vitara to rectify a possible defect in a part of the front row seat belts.

The automaker said in a regulatory filing that the affected vehicles were manufactured between November 2-28, 2022. TKM has recently removed the Urban Cruiser compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) from its product portfolio in the country.

The automaker introduced a rebadged Maruti Vitara Brezza model in September 2020 and it has registered cumulative wholesale sales of over 65,000 units so far.

The company said in a statement that its product strategy is focused on bringing models based on customer feedback to further enhance the mobility experience of customers.
