So far 20 pilgrims have died in the Chardham Yatra that began in Uttarakhand on May 3. Most of these deaths are due to heart attack. There is also a Nepali laborer among them. Earlier on Monday, the news of the death of 14 devotees in Yamunotri and Gangotri Dham came to light. Apart from these, there are reports of the death of five devotees in Kedarnath and one in Badninath. In this way, the death of 20 pilgrims in six days has worried the organizers of the yatra and the administration.

Actually, Chardham is situated at an altitude between about 10 thousand feet and 12,000 feet from the plain area. Most of the devotees who climb to such a height include those who are either elderly or are suffering from some heart disease.

Registration for maximum Kedarnath
CM Dhami called a meeting in Dehradun on Tuesday regarding the incident. According to the Uttarakhand government, more than 9.5 lakh passengers have registered so far. Maximum 3.35 lakh registrations have been done for Kedarnath. In all the four dhams, three times more devotees are reaching for darshan than the prescribed capacity. At the same time, the Health Department says that the deaths of pilgrims are happening due to many reasons.

Kovid certificate is not necessary for devotees
Claims are being made by the government and the health department that there should be adequate arrangements for health services on the Chardham Yatra routes. But there is not even adequate arrangement for accommodation with health services on the difficult pedestrian routes of Kedarnath and Yamunotri Dham.

According to a report, during the Chardham Yatra, the state government had neither made a health fitness certificate mandatory for such pilgrims nor had any limit on the number of pilgrims been fixed. Apart from this, Kovid negative report and vaccination certificate were also not made mandatory.

Chardham Yatra started after two years
The Chardham Yatra has started after two years from May 3. The last time devotees visited Chardham was in 2019, but in 2020 and 2021, due to the rising corona in the country, a nationwide lockdown was imposed, due to which all religious places were closed indefinitely.
