2 Feared Dead As Heavy Rain Damages Houses And Crops | Hubballi News – Times of India

HUBBALLI: Heavy rain is believed to have claimed at least two lives in Haveri while caused property and crop damage in the districts of North Karnataka on Tuesday.
Union minister Pralhad Joshi and state minister Shankar Patil Munenakoppa visited flooded villages in Hubballi taluk.
Nimbavva Negalur, 48, died in Tumarikoppa village in Hanagal taluk of Haveri district after her house collapsed.
Sunil Negalur, 18, was washed away in the Varada river. Villagers said his house is near a river and he fell into it. Fire and emergency services personnel were searching for him till evening.
In Haveri district, heavy rain was reported in Hamsabavi of Hirekerur taluk (87 mm) and Kaginele (86mm).
Many tanks have spilled over. In Ghalapuji village, 100 hectares of crop land have been destroyed as water gushed into the fields. Houses in low-lying areas in Haveri, Ranebennur, Hangal, Savanur, Byadagi, Hirekerur and other rural areas are also under water.
In Vijayanagara district, Mariyammanahalli, Kudligi and other towns got heavy rain. The overflowing Gunda and Mariyammanahalli tanks have flooded over 100 hectares of cropland. Water has gushed into Hajara Rama Temple in the heritage site of Hampi.
Ater visiting the flooded villages in Hubballi taluk, minister Joshi said an action plan is being prepared to broaden and maintain the Tuppari Halla at a cost of Rs 350 crore. “As these villages are affected by floods often, the issue will be solved permanently. We will instruct the Dharwad DC to call a meeting to do a survey to get NDRF compensation” he said.
Gadag DC Vaishali ML visited Battur and Shettihalli villages of Laxmeshwar taluk. She called a meeting at the Laxmeshwar tahsildar’s office and instructed officials to tackle rain-related incidents on priority basis.
The deputy commissioners of Haveri, Gadag, Vijayanagara have declared school holiday. Though Dharwad DC Gurudatta Hegde clarified in the morning that no holiday was declared, many school and college managements announced a holiday using their discretion in the interest of students. The region became sunny by afternoon but cloudy, dry weather prevailed at night.
