With 21 runs needed in the final over, MS Dhoni managed to hit two sixes while facing Rajasthan Royals pacer Sandeep Sharma. But Dhoni’s 17-ball 32 not out ultimately went in vain. Chasing the target of 176 runs, Chennai Super Kings had to face defeat by just three runs. Earlier, destructive English batsman Jos Buttler played a brilliant knock of 52 runs to take Rajasthan Royals to a competitive total of 175.

The three-run defeat now leaves Chennai Super Kings fifth in the IPL standings. With two wins from four matches, the MS Dhoni-led side currently has four points in IPL 2023. In their next match, the four-time IPL winners will square off against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday.
