South star Gautham Karthik, known for his performances in films like Kadal and Oru Nalla Naal Pathu Solren, has signed a new project with none other than filmmaker AR Murugadoss. His new film, titled 1947 Aug 16, has Gautham in the lead role. The makers of the film unveiled the first look of the actor while announcing the film on Wednesday. In the poster of the film, which also features debutant Revathi, Gautham is shown in a fiery and intriguing look. He can be seen sporting a kurta and dhoti and leading a riot that looks like a burning forest. 1947 16 August, which is a period drama, produced by Murugadoss and directed by his friend and director NS Ponnakumar.
Sharing the poster on Twitter, Gautham wrote, “Here is the first look of my next film! 1947 Aug 16 by Ponkumar.”

Murugadoss also shared the poster on his Twitter profile and wrote, “Bringing a lot of young talent to this amazing project.” His caption read: “My next production venture #1947August16. It has been a privilege to bring a lot of young talent to this wonderful project. All best friends. let’s Rock it!”

According to Murugadoss, 1947 16 August is a “heart touching act.” Revealing Gautham’s first look from the film, he said in a statement: “1947 16 August is an ambitious and honest story that unfolded before me. It is an important and touching work that demands to be told and heard. It will always be with you once you see it.”
Jointly produced by Murugadoss, Om Prakash Bhatt, Narasiram Choudhary and Aditya Joshi, the film has been shot in Tamil Nadu and is currently in the post-production stage, reports trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
