A 19-year-old graduate student from Haryana was arrested for impersonating himself on behalf of another candidate to take admission in class 9 in the recently held Jamia Millia Islamia school entrance examination, police said on Tuesday. He said the accused Mohammad Ikhlash, a resident of Mewat in Haryana, was in need of money and agreed to appear in the entrance test on behalf of another candidate and charged Rs 15,000 for taking it.

Acting Chief Proctor of Jamia Millia Islamia Prof. Shahid Khan in which he said that an entrance test was conducted by the school on Sunday where the invigilator caught Ikhlash impersonating as a candidate in the entrance examination for class 9 of the academic session 2021-22, according to police .

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) RP Meena said, “When our team reached the spot, the inspector said that while he was checking the credentials of the candidates, it was found that the photograph of the candidate on the identity card did not match. . The face of the accused who was appearing for the entrance.”

He said the arrested accused told the police that he was in dire need of money due to which he accepted the offer of a candidate to appear in the school entrance examination and charged Rs 15,000 for doing so.

He said that a case has been registered at Jamia Nagar police station and further investigation is being done to nab the real candidate.

While no previous involvement has been found against him, a fake Aadhaar card has been recovered from his possession, the police said.
