19 Killed, 20 Injured as Truck Hits Funeral Procession in China

The accident happened after China lifted all restrictions of the zero-covid policy and started internal and external travel coinciding with the Chinese New Year and Spring Festival.

At least 19 people were killed and 20 others were injured when a truck rammed a funeral procession in east China’s Jiangxi province, officials said.

A brief report by official media here said a “major road traffic accident” occurred in Nanchang County and the injured were taken to hospital.

Reports said that at least 19 people were killed and 20 others were injured in the accident.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.

Local media reports said the accident happened when a truck hit the funeral procession.

China’s Ministry of Transport (MoT) said on Friday that the number of passengers has increased rapidly and travel demand has picked up following the country’s optimized pandemic response.

Although the official holiday lasts for about a week from January 22, Chunyun in 2023 will last 40 days from January 7 to February 15.
