18,833 Covid cases recorded in India, 203 deaths in a day; Recovery rate 97.94 percent

India on Wednesday recorded 18,833 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The country recorded 263 deaths due to the infection in the last 24 hours. With this, the death toll from Kovid-19 in India increased to 4,49,538.

The country has been reporting less than 20,000 cases in the past few days amid widespread fears of an imminent third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The active caseload currently stands at 2,46,687, comprising 0.73 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.94 per cent. The total number of cured people in India rose to 3.31,75,656 after 24,770 were cured in the last 24 hours.

The Indian Council of Medical Research said that the total number of samples tested so far is 57,68,03,867, which includes 14,09,825 samples tested on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country crossed 92 crore, the Union Health Ministry said.

Over 59 lakh vaccine doses have been administered on Tuesday and the number is expected to rise with the compilation of the final report by late night.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has warned that revenge tourism will trigger a third wave of COVID-19 if hill stations and tourist places do not strictly implement the COVID protocol.
