According to media reports, a 17-year-old Sikh boy has died in a horrific accident in Canada’s British Columbia province after he lost control of his vehicle.

CityNews Vancouver reported that Taran Lal was on his way home earlier this month when his car skidded off the Fraser Highway in Langley, British Columbia.

According to the Global News Canada news station, the force of the January 7 crash was such that it flattened a fence and felled a tree.

Lal’s mother Sarabjit Nanara-Lal told Omni News that she had spoken to him shortly before he was informed of the accident.

“I hung up the phone and went to take a shower. When I came back, his father was on the phone and was just checking the car,” she told OMNI News, according to the report.

It said that apart from the fact that it was raining heavily, nothing more was known about the possible cause of the accident.

Lal’s family told Global News that he was a good student at Tamnavis Secondary School in Surrey and was very involved in sports.

A GoFundMe fundraiser launched to help his family with funeral costs described him as a “loving son, protective older brother, unforgettable friend and a beloved role model to those around him”. .
