GUWAHATI: GUWAHATI SMART CITY LTD (GSCL) will soon take up 17 projects including Brahmaputra riverfront development and integrated traffic management system in the city at a cost of over Rs 887 crore.
Managing Director of GSCL Ghanshyam Dass He said that tenders have been floated for some projects while tenders would be floated for the rest soon. He said that Rs 308 crore would be spent on river front development project, Rs 236 crore would be spent on purchase of 200 non AC electric buses, Rs 127 crore on Integrated Traffic Management System and Rs 30 would be spent on siltation super sucker machines. Several offices like Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Guwahati Police Commissioner’s Office and Guwahati Municipal Corporation Commissioner’s office will have to be shifted from their present location to different parts of the city to accommodate the riverfront makeover work. The government has already identified the new locations and preparatory work is underway.
Under the Integrated Traffic Management System, automatic traffic signal lights and CCTV Cameras will be installed all over the city to keep an eye on the violation of traffic rules. Urban Affairs Minister announced this Ashok Singhal Last week.
It may be mentioned here that GSCL had earlier failed to implement several important projects in the city. The Assam Police and GSCL had started the ‘City Surveillance’ project in 2019 to install a total of 4,000 CCTV cameras, but abandoned it.
The development of Borsola Beel was the first project in the GSCL list. A total allocation of Rs 80 crore was made for the development of Beel, but the project was shelved.
