15 students, 6 teachers test COVID-19 positive in Tamil Nadu Coimbatore News – Times of India

Trichy/Coimbatore/Cuddalore: More school students continue to test positive for Covid-19 since schools reopened for physical mode on September 1. On Monday, officials revealed that at least 15 school students and six teachers from different parts of the state tested positive.
While some students tested positive after showing symptoms, most were identified through random testing conducted in schools. Institutions that reported multiple cases were shut down, while schools reporting singular cases continued to function after sanitisation.
In Coimbatore, eight students from four government schools and one private school have tested positive. District Chief Education Officer in Coimbatore, N Geetha said all schools would continue to function except Sultanpet Government High School, where three students tested positive, which was closed for three days from Monday. Classmates of students who tested positive were asked to stay at home for a few days and attend online classes. Health department officials said they would continue to conduct random tests among school students.
In Tiruvarur, four students from different government schools near Tiruvarur, Mannargudi and Thiruthuraipondi tested positive. However, the health department declined to provide details on how the students were tested. In Trichy, a Class XII student of a private CBSE school near Rettaivakkal showed symptoms on the day of reopening and was sent back home for testing. On Monday, the School Education Department confirmed the girl’s positive, the private school will be closed for five days from Monday. In Pudukkottai, a class X girl near Karamabakudi was tested positive after displaying symptoms. Officials said that even though she had not gone to school for the last three working days, the school would be sanitized and monitored by a health team. In Cuddalore district, one student in Neyveli town tested positive, thus taking the total number of infected students to 15 on Monday. Till Sunday, three students from Ariyalur and one student from Namakkal and two students from Thanjavur district have tested positive.
In Karur, a government school teacher tested positive. As she had symptoms on Thursday, she had not gone to school since then. Similarly, four teachers in Tiruppur district tested positive. One of them had tested positive a few days back but the information has come to light now. A headmaster of a government higher secondary school in Kallakurichi was tested positive on Monday. Ten employees who were in contact with him were told to isolate themselves and get tested if they show symptoms.
