11-year-old girl raped, murdered in Surat | Surat News – Times of India

SURAT: The city police on Monday arrested a 30-year-old textile unit worker for the alleged rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl in Palsana taluka of Surat district on Sunday.
The accused identified as Dayachand Patel is a native of Madhya Pradesh and father of two children, said police.
A case was registered under Indian Penal Code sections 302 (Punishment for murder), 376 (Punishment for rape), 341 (wrongful restraint), 342 (wrongful confinement), 361 (kidnapping) and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act against Patel.
According to the police, the accused lured the girl, who lives in the neighbourhood, promising her biscuits and brought her to a secluded room in the same locality on Sunday afternoon. Patel then allegedly raped the little girl and strangled her. To hide the murder Patel locked the room and went back to work.
On Sunday afternoon when the girl’s mother returned from work she found their 7-year-old son watching television but their daughter was missing. The girl’s parents who are natives of Bihar started searching for their missing daughter. The girl’s parents both work in a textile unit and leave their children alone at home in Jolva village when they go to work.
Their neighbors also started searching for the girl along with her parents. One of the neighbors found an abandoned room locked from outside. He informed others about the same. People broke the lock and found the 11-year-old girl lying near a small bathroom passage. They hastened her to the hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
The parents informed the police who detained two men after the girl’s mother raised suspicion on them. Dr SP Rajkumar, IG Surat range, said that after scanning the CCTV footage from the area, police searched shops from where the accused might have purchased a new lock. In one such footage, they found Patel entering a shop selling locks.
On questioning, Patel initially denied the then but then he confessed, said police.
According to the police, most of the residents of the locality were from Madhya Pradesh and doing labor work in nearby industrial units. Only the victim’s family was from Bihar.
