102 people lost their lives due to heavy rains, floods in Maharashtra since June 1

MumbaiAccording to the Maharashtra State Disaster Situation Report Index, a total of 102 people have lost their lives in rain and flood-related incidents in Maharashtra since June 1. According to SDMD, the death toll of animals so far is 189. A total of 13 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and three State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) teams have been deployed by the government in several districts of the state. So far around 11,836 people have been evacuated and 73 relief camps have been set up. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a red alert for Palghar in Maharashtra.

Major rivers of the district – Vaitarna, Tansa are flowing above the danger mark. IMD has predicted heavy rainfall (64.5 to 115.5 mm) at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra on July 17. Heavy rains are occurring in many parts of Maharashtra. The state has been receiving torrential rains for the past few days since the onset of the torrential monsoon.

Several 28 districts have been affected due to heavy rains in the state including Pune, Satara, Solapur, Nashik, Jalgaon, Ahmednagar, Beed, Latur, Washim, Yavatmal, Dhule, Jalna, Akola, Bhandara, Buldhana, Nagpur, Nandurbar. Mumbai Sub, Palghar, Thane, Nanded, Amravati, Wardha, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Gadchiroli, Sangli, Chandrapur. Kolhapur, Palghar, Nashik, Pune and Ratnagiri districts were put on red alert till July 14 for heavy rains and orange alert was issued in Mumbai.
