Those who hacked the server of the country’s largest government hospital AIIMS Delhi have demanded Rs 200 crore. Hackers have asked to make payment in cryptocurrency. News agency ANI has claimed this by quoting sources. However, the Delhi Police has denied that any kind of ransom was demanded. Let us inform that the server of AIIMS was hacked on Wednesday i.e. 23 November by a ransomware attack. Due to this the services of the hospital are getting badly affected.

Patients coming to the OPD and IPD of the hospital are facing difficulty in getting treatment. Digital services like online appointment booking and teleconsultation were also affected due to the server outage. However, all these services are being run manually.

The complete cleaning of the network is likely to take another 5 days. After this, e-hospital services can be started. OPD, Emergency, In Patient Laboratory etc. services are being continued on manual mode.

What happened on 23 November? Understand the whole matter…
In AIIMS, at 6.45 am, there is a complaint of not receiving patients’ reports from the computer center of the Emergency Lab. After this, some similar calls start coming from the billing center and department as well. When the NIC team investigated, it was found that all the files are not opening on the main server.

When the team first tried to restore the files through the backup system, it was found that it too had been breached. Then on further investigation, it was found that the extension i.e. e-address on which the files are kept in the cloud has also been changed. The matter of cyber attack has been confirmed. For this, the help of Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) was also taken.

Scanning work of 20 out of 50 servers completed
The scanning work of 20 out of 50 servers of AIIMS has been completed. The experts team is working round the clock for the sanitization work of the rest of the servers. NIC e-hospital database and application server for e-hospital have been restored. Antivirus system is being fed again in 5000 systems.

Case registered on 25 November
Delhi Police had registered a case of extortion and cyber terrorism in the matter on 25 November. Internet services on computers in the hospital have been suspended on the recommendation of investigative agencies. AIIMS server has data store of many VIPs including former prime ministers, ministers, senior officers, judges.

3 lakh cyber attacks every month in the country
According to a recent report by IndusFace, there are about 3 lakh cyber attacks on the healthcare sector in India every month. These are the second most cyber attacks in the world. There are about half a million cyber attacks on the American health sector every month.
