Monsoon has started creating havoc in Himachal with a bang. During the last 24 hours, 3 people died and one person was injured. Heavy rains damaged a pucca house, 13 vehicles and a school building. Five goats have died and 16 are missing due to being swept away in the flood. Government and non-government property worth Rs 2.56 crore has been destroyed due to the rains.

85 roads across the state are closed due to landslides at various places. Similarly, on the heritage Shimla-Kalka railway track, all trains have been closed for two days due to landslides at various places. This is affecting the movement of people.

Following heavy rains, the Chandigarh-Manali NH-21 was also blocked on Sunday evening after a landslide in seven miles. Due to this, hundreds of vehicles were stuck at various places till midnight. Tourists along with the local people also faced problems.

Yellow alert for the next five days from today

According to the Meteorological Department, the people of the state are not expected to get relief from the rains for the next five days. A yellow alert has been issued for heavy rains in the state for five days. During this, incidents like cloudburst can also be seen at some places.

102% more rain last week

On June 25, the state received 247 per cent more rainfall than normal. Between June 19 and 25, there was 102 percent more cloud cover than normal. There is no possibility of getting relief from rain for the next four to five days.

Except Una, Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur, all other districts have received several times more rain than normal. Solan district has received 298 per cent more rainfall than normal, Hamirpur 295 and Mandi 278 per cent.

106 mm of rain in Dharamshala

During the last 24 hours, the highest rainfall of 106.6 mm was recorded in Dharamshala. Mandi received 56 mm of rain, Paonta Sahib 43, Chamba 24.5, Dalhousie 23 and Palampur 32.2 mm.
