Heavy snowfall in the higher reaches of Himachal has added to the miseries of the people. 496 roads and 908 electric transformers (DTR) have been stalled since 2 days. Traffic has been affected due to the blocking of roads. Hundreds of families are in the dark due to the closure of DTR. Without electricity, people are facing more problems in the harsh winter.

After fresh snowfall, 496 roads including 3 National Highways (NH) in the state are closed for vehicular movement. Due to this, there is little hope of reaching the supply of daily consumption items like milk, bread, curd, butter, vegetables in many areas of Lahaul Spiti, Shimla, Kinnaur and Kullu.

180 roads closed in Shimla district
In Shimla district maximum 180 roads are closed since 2 days. 27 roads in Chamba district, 2 in Kangra, 73 in Kinnaur, 37 in Kullu, 158 in Lahaul Spiti, 8 in Mandi and 11 in Sirmaur are closed due to snowfall. Due to this, transport services have been disrupted on more than 400 routes since 2 days. People are facing difficulties in commuting.

908 transformers closed across the state
After snowfall, 908 electric transformers (DTR) have stalled in the state. Maximum 384 DTR in Shimla district, 66 in Chamba, 272 in Kinnaur, 4 in Kullu, 144 in Lahaul Spiti, 15 in Mandi and 53 DTR in Sirmaur district have disrupted power supply.

The weather will be clear for the next 4-5 days
Director of Meteorological Center Shimla Surendra Pal told that from today the weather will remain clear for the next 4-5 days. Due to this, the people of the state will get some relief from the harsh winter.

After the fresh snowfall, the roads in the snow-dominated areas have become dangerous. Due to slippery, traveling on them has become risky. In view of this, the government has advised to take precautions while driving.
