Former President Sonia Gandhi addressed party workers on the second day of the ongoing 85th Congress session in Raipur.
In the ongoing 85th Congress session in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur, former party president Sonia Gandhi hinted at retirement from politics. Sonia said in her address on Saturday – With the Bharat Jodo Yatra, my political innings is now at its last stop.
For the first time, Sonia talked about the ups and downs since assuming the chair of the party president. He said- When I became the party president for the first time in 1998, till today i.e. in the last 25 years, there have been many good and some bad experiences.
Be it the party’s performance in 2004 and 2009 or my decision to make Manmohan Singh the Prime Minister. It was satisfying for me personally. For this I got full cooperation of the party workers. What gives me the most satisfaction is that my innings can now come to an end with the Bharat Jodo Yatra. This is a turning point for the party.
Sonia said- Be it the party’s performance in 2004 and 2009 or my decision to make Manmohan Singh the Prime Minister. It was satisfying for me personally.
Opposition unity necessary in 2024 Lok Sabha elections
Here, in the convention of the party, there was talk about the united opposition in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Party leaders said that the entire opposition will have to come on one platform to defeat the BJP in the next Lok Sabha elections. Opposition parties should avoid third front. On the contrary, such a decision only strengthens the BJP.

Party President Mallikarjun Kharge said that there is an atmosphere of hatred in the country. The government is selling rail, jail, oil everything to its friends. The DNA of the people sitting in the Delhi government is anti-poor. Sonia Gandhi said that Rahul Gandhi has completed a difficult journey. The constitution of the Congress has been changed. Chief among them are…
- AICC delegates and 50 percent of all posts will be reserved for Scheduled Castes, Tribals, Minorities and Backward Classes.
- 50 percent of the posts will be held by people below 50 years.
- From January 1, 2025, there will be no paper membership in Congress, only digital membership.
- Third gender will be discussed in the form of Congress, now the name of mother and wife will also be written in the form.
- Wherever there are elected members of Congress at block, district and state level. They will all be delegates.
- From membership to empowerment Now one AICC member will be elected on 6 PCC delegates members. Till now 8 were selected.
- The number of AICC members will increase from 1240 to 1653.

Steering committee meeting. In this, it was decided that there would be no elections to the Congress Working Committee (CWC). The members involved in the meeting unanimously gave Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge the right to elect the CWC member. Along with this, it was decided to give 50 percent reservation to SC-ST, OBC, youth and women in the organization. Congress President Kharge’s last speech will be at 2 pm and rally at 3 pm.
