A girl of Indian origin who was rescued said – We could have been killed there at any moment.

Under Operation Kaveri, the Indian Navy and Air Force have so far evacuated 561 people in three batches to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. On Wednesday night, the fourth batch of 136 Indians left for Jeddah from Port Sudan by C-130J aircraft and the fifth batch of 297 Indians left for Jeddah from INS Teg. That is, till now a total of 994 Indians have been evacuated from Sudan.

Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that in the first batch of ‘Operation Kaveri’, 278 Indians were airlifted by Navy ship INS Sumedha from Port Sudan to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. After this, 148 and 135 Indians were brought to Jeddah by C-130J aircraft of the Indian Air Force.

So far 459 people have died in Sudan
Fighting began on 15 April between the army and the Paramilitary Force (RSF) for the coup in Sudan. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 459 people and soldiers have died in the fighting so far. 4,072 people have been injured. On the other hand, more than 4 thousand Indians live in Sudan.

The 72-hour ceasefire in Sudan is till 12 midnight on 27 April. During this, it is time for other countries to evacuate their citizens from here. However, even after the ceasefire, clashes continued in other parts of the country, including the capital Khartoum.

  • The WHO representative in Sudan says that the army or paramilitary has captured a lab that collects samples of diseases. This has increased the possibility of biological danger.

  • UN Refugee Agency- UNHCR is preparing for the migration of about 2 lakh 70 thousand refugees living in Sudan. More than one million refugees from countries like Syria, Yemen live in Sudan.
