Delhi’s Deputy CM Manish Sisodia has sought Rs 927 crore from the Central Government to prepare for the G-20. For this, he has written a letter to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Giving information on Twitter, Sisodia wrote that- The Delhi government will extend all kinds of cooperation for organizing the G20 conference so that the meeting is successful and the guests coming during this time carry a good image of the country. For its preparation, an additional assistance of Rs 927 crore has been sought from the Central Government so that its preparations can be completed on a war footing.

Manish Sisodia’s letter to Nirmala Sitharaman…

Dear Nirmala Sitharaman,

It is a matter of great pleasure for India that this time India is hosting the G-20 meeting. It is a matter of happiness for us Delhiites that most of the important activities of G-20 are going to happen in Delhi itself. The Government of Delhi will cooperate fully with the Government of India in the direction of making the organization of this meeting of G-20 a success. Under the leadership of Chief Minister of Delhi Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, it will be the endeavor of the entire Delhi Government that there should be no shortage in hosting the international guests who came to us during the G-20 meeting and also as the capital of India of the 21st century. He returned from Delhi with unforgettable memories.

In this direction, various departments of the Delhi government have made a framework for organizing various activities and programmes, from infrastructure development. There are proposals for beautification of specific areas around the major G-20 event venues and organizing some special activities and programs on the occasion at prominent places in Delhi.

The Delhi government needs Rs 927 crore for the plans made for the special preparations for the G-20. Honorable Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Mr. Vinay Kumar Saxena is also continuously reviewing these efforts. The Lieutenant Governor has also agreed to all these efforts and programs for the preparations for the G-20. You are already aware that no money is being given by the Government of India to the Delhi Government as a share in central taxes. Nor is the Government of Delhi given any additional grant from the Government of India. Even the amount given to the Municipal Corporations of all the states of the country according to their population is not given to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. In such a situation, it is evident that it will not be easy for the Delhi government to spend Rs 927 crore for additional preparations for the preparations for the G-20 meeting with its regular limited resources. Therefore, I request you that keeping in view the importance of the G-20 meeting and the need for preparations to make its event in Delhi a success, Rs 927 crore required for this should be made available by the Central Government. This will go a long way in helping the Delhi government to implement all these schemes and programs smoothly and all the preparations will be completed in time.

I have full hope that the Delhi government will get positive cooperation from you in this direction.

Yours faithfully Manish Sisodia
