Moka storm has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm. The Indian Meteorological Center (IMD) said that the storm turned severe at 5.30 pm on Thursday. Late Thursday night its center was 510 km west-northwest of Port Blair in the middle of the Bay of Bengal.

According to the Meteorological Department, the intensity of the storm will increase further on Friday morning. During this, winds will blow at a speed of 135 km/h. The IMD has forecast the storm to move towards the Bangladesh-Myanmar coast.

The Meteorological Department has advised fishermen and ships not to venture into central and northeast Bay of Bengal and north Andaman Sea till Sunday. Ships already there have been asked to return to shore.

Due to Moka, there is a possibility of heavy rains in Tripura and Mizoram on Saturday. It may rain at many places in Nagaland, Manipur and South Assam on Sunday. 8 NDRF teams and 200 rescue personnel have been deployed in West Bengal. 100 rescuers have been kept in reserve.
